Monday - Friday  8.00am - 6.30pm

Saturday - 8.30am - 1.00pm

We are closed Sundays and on Bank Holidays.

Did Not Attend (DNA)

When a patient fails to attend a booked GP or nurse appointment (routine or urgent) this is called a DNA (did not attend).

During the month of September, 392 patients failed to attend their booked appointments which is equivalent to 65 hours of GP and Nurse time that could have been made available to other patients.

This has a big impact on our waiting times for routine appointments. Please help us to reduce our waiting times by letting us know if you are unable to attend or no longer need your appointment.

Surgery Times

Monday to Friday (Gallions Reach Health Centre and Heronsgate Medical Centre)

Doctors are available as follows

  • 08.10 - 12.00pm 
  • 14.00-18.00
  • Heronsgate Medical Centre is closed Wednesday afternoons.

For emergencies there is a D/D available to give telephone advice from 8:00am until 6:30pm.

This is available by talking to a receptionist who will take your details so the doctor can call you back.

Saturday mornings (Heronsgate Medical Centre)

  • We offer Saturday morning appointments at Heronsgate Medical Centre every week.
  • The Saturday morning clinic runs from 8.30am - 1.00pm.
  • These clinics will be open to patients from both Gallions Reach and Heronsgate Medical Centre.
  • These appointments will all need to be booked in advance, there will be no emergency or book on the day appointments. So please do not turn up unless you have an appointment.
  • Urgent problems that arise during saturday should be dealt with as usual by contacting NHS 111.

How to contact your GP

If you need the doctor, please ring 02083335000 for Gallions Reach Health Centre or 02083335050 for Heronsgate Medical Centre. The receptionist will ask for a brief description of the problem, and then offer you a choice between face to face or Telephone consultation. You are free to consult any doctor, but you will get a better service from us if you ask to speak or seethe same doctor for follow up of the same problem or illness.

You do not need to book in advance. However if you need to plan your appointment in advance we are still able to offer you an appointment with a Doctor of your choice, Nine out of Ten patients choose a convenient time on the same day.

Cancellations - Patients who fail to attend an appointment without notifying the practice, waste doctor and nurse time and prolong unnecessarily the waiting time for other patients. This is unacceptable behaviour and persistent offenders will be asked to find another practice.

Emergencies

Anybody requiring urgent treatment is always dealt with on the same day. 

Home Visits

If you think that you need a doctor to visit you at home, either because you are housebound or too ill to be brought to the health centre, telephone and speak to the reception staff.  Home visits are only justifiable on medical grounds. Give the receptionist as much information as you can - it will be kept in strict confidence and will allow the duty doctor to assess the urgency of your problem.  We can see five patients in our surgery in the time it takes to see one at home. Please help us by keeping requests for home visits to a minimum. In particular, situations where small children are too ill to be moved are extremely rare.

You may find that an appointment with one of our team of practice nurses can provide the help and advice you need. Practice nurse appointments are 15 minutes long.

Out of Hours Care

In an emergency after the surgery has closed please telephone 111 the new NHS out of hours' telephone number. A trained health advisor will answer and direct you to the right NHS service. For security reasons it is unusual for a doctor to visit a patient without speaking directly to them or their relative.

Accident and Emergency departments are open 24 hours a day but are meant for very serious or life threatening illnesses only.
